While still apprenticing with architect Burton A. Schutt they designed and built their first house, a duplex set naturally within the native chaparral high on the western slope of Laurel Canyon. Reflecting the philosophy and many of the design ideas Jones would continue to develop throughout his career, the building is iconic. After the war Jones converted the buildings to a single family residence, where he established his first design studio.
