Description

Description

PRIVATE STRUCTURE (lease only). A front row seat for a priceless show. The villa is an exclusive residence that enjoys a privileged position, set in the promontory of Ravello, the most precious pearl of the Amalfi coast. Carved into the rock at 325 m above sea level, the villa dominates an exceptional view that embraces the western edge of the Gulf of Salerno, extending west to the temples of Paestum and to Punta Licosa. The original building has been the subject of a careful restoration of the original ruined farmhouse which, since the Middle Ages, had been the residence of those peasants who were the "maintainers" of this strip of paradise. The materials used are the same that the skilled local artisans have learned to use from their ancestors: slaked lime, pumice, wood, terracotta and dolomitic limestone; the same used to build the prestigious monuments of Ravello and its particular medieval urban structure. The interior of the villa is exalted in the happy combination of recycled materials, such as the ceiling beams, and local handcrafted materials, such as Vietri ceramics and elements of the most refined design, to characterise the bedrooms and the living room. The strong point of the property is the park that surrounds the villa, a lush Mediterranean garden that unfolds on a terraced route on paths and stone steps, along which the various levels develop, with the swimming pool and the outdoor kitchen, the Turkish bath, the terrace with the panoramic hot tub, seating corners and a wonderful pergola covered by strawberry grape vines and kiwis. The crags, overlooking the enchanting and immense scenery subtended by the rocky profiles of the coast, offer a breathtaking view of the plain that goes down to the sea and a magical night skyline. villa is far from the clamour and confusion of the world; a true "signature home" to fully and peacefully experience the bewitching beauty of the landscape, inebriated by the scents of Mediterranean nature. At the same time, the villa is at the centre of the world, a focal point for getting to the most popular destinations: from here, about 195 steps uphill along the panoramic ridge lead to the main road, where in less than a kilometre you can reach the historic centre of Ravello, known all over the world as the town of music for the prestigious music festivals that animate it every year. Here you can stroll and enjoy the elegant atmosphere of the borgo, lose yourself in shopping and visit its precious monuments: the central square, the cathedral, the Niemeyer Auditorium, Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone with its Infinity Terrace. Roughly half an hour away by car is the port of Amalfi where you can embark for Positano, Capri or Salerno. Also by car, in less than an hour, you can get to Pompeii, Vesuvius and Paestum. Those who love walking will find themselves in the midst of the most famous hiking routes in the area, including the "Path of the Gods". Going downhill directly from the villa, along the path of lemons, in about 40 minutes you come to Minori, a charming town on the sea with its important Roman Villa, also visible from the terrace of the villa, lulled by the sweet sound of the sea waves.

Interior

The villa is composed of the main house and an annex. The whole develops on the terraced cliffs along the ridge that slopes down to the sea, adapting to the particular morphology of the territory. The three levels on which it develops (to which the lower one with the Turkish bath is added), are internally connected by spiral staircases but each level also has its own independent access, directly from the external steps. About 195 downhill steps from the main road lead to the first terrace of the property which contains the wonderful pergola and a fully-equipped kitchen. From here, going down a ramp, you come to the first entrance to the villa which leads into a hallway with two double bedrooms, one of which is served by a bathroom with tub in the room and the other by a guest bathroom. Going down to the lower level is a bathroom with shower and the sitting room, with a TV corner and a reading room with fireplace, which opens onto a panoramic terrace. The final level is occupied by the open-plan kitchen with dining and seating area overlooking the sea. Next to the main body of the villa is the annex, with the entrance leading into a living area complete with kitchenette and, on the floor below, with a double bedroom (with queen size bed) and a bathroom with shower.

Park

The 1,500 sq m of the park of villa develop along the slope that faces the east of the valley and ending with the town of Minori, crossed by steps and terraces supported by dry stone walls that alternate along the scenic path of lemons. The whole garden, organised in terraces connected by flights of steps, is designed to guarantee a proper sensory path overlooking the sea, able to amaze with its riot of scents and colours. Walking along it, you come across a proper plant anthology, made up of typical Mediterranean essences: vines, cascades of lemons, olives, figs, apples, plums, pears, laurel, myrtle and aromatic herbs, embellished with an exotic touch of cycas and bougainvillea to mark the way along paved paths and well-kept patches of lawn. In the highest part of the garden, a large pergola covered by strawberry grapes and bunches of kiwis contains two living/dining areas and a gas hob. A few steps away is the fully-equipped kitchen and the wonderful terrace dominated by the hot tub. A second, fully-equipped kitchen is located in the heart of the park near the swimming pool, both reached through the garden entrance gate, separated from the body of the house by the pedestrian path. At the foot of the building, with direct entrance from the pedestrian path and with a panoramic view of the gulf, is the Turkish bath. The property does not have its own parking area, private paid parking is available in Ravello.

Swimming Pool

Forty-three steps along the path of lemons lead from the garden to the cliff on one side of the villa, also designed with a sea view, which contains the swimming pool and a terraced garden studded with pergolas of lemons, fruit trees (apple, peach and fig ), olive trees and a small vineyard. A large pergola provides shade to a stone table and brick-built kitchen with kitchenette, barbecue and wood oven. Going along the internal avenue bordered by Mediterranean essences, you come to an upper terrace with the sunbathing area equipped with sunbeds and the exclusive swimming pool, also designed to re-propose in modern key the old culture of water and landscape. Its shape recalls that of the old "fish ponds" - tanks for the collection and accumulation of water for both domestic and agricultural use, essential for the life of the territory – with its supply provided by a small scenic canal cascade. Chlorine-purified and irregular in shape with a metal access ladder, the pool has an area of about 20 cubic metres and a maximum depth of 1.80 m. The swimming pool is available to guests from the last Saturday in April until the first Saturday in October.

Ravello has its origins in the mists of time; it is located in the heart of the Amalfi coast and has a territory that goes from sea level, with its three kilometres of coastline, to a thousand metres above sea level with its peaks, which the Romans named "Lattari Mountains". The geographical and altimetric position is just one of the many peculiarities that make Ravello unique in the world. Also known as the town of music, thanks to the countless musical events (such as the Ravello Festival), the town is a concentrate of historical, architectural, gastronomic and natural beauties, all there for you to discover. A destination for writers, artists and illustrious men since the Middle Ages, Ravello has been painted, described and praised by Boccaccio to Gregorovius, from Vittorio Emanuele III to Jacqueline Kennedy. Wagner found here, materialised, his imaginary “Enchanted Garden of Klingsor” and Gore Vidal his "buen retiro". Not to mention Virginia Woolf and the entire London Bloomsbury Group, D.H. Lawrence, Andre Gide, E.M. Forster, M.C. Escher, John Maynard Keynes. The love story lived in Ravello by Greta Garbo and Leopold Stokowsky played host to all the newspapers in the world. World cinema has chosen Ravello as the set for many masterpieces: from "Beat the Devil" by Truman Capote with Humphrey Bogart, Gina Lollobrigida, Jennifer Jones, Robert Morley, Peter Lorre, to the most recent "Mr. & Mrs. Smith” with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Ravello, the ideal destination for those looking for a stay in tranquillity and privacy while taking advantage of the wonders that the coast offers, can be reached by car for those coming from the north through the exits of Nocera on the Caserta-Salerno motorway or Angri Sud on the Naples-Salerno motorway, along the Chiunzi pass and the SP 1 road. For those coming from the south, we suggest the Salerno exit, and the SS 363 Amalfitana road (it is advisable to inquire before leaving for any restrictions on vehicular traffic). By train, the station of Naples is recommended for those coming from the north, and that of Salerno for those coming from the south. From Naples there is a SITA bus service with non-direct routes to Ravello which make it difficult; from Salerno the SITA bus service is frequent but not direct, with connection and change in Amalfi (from where buses to Ravello depart). By plane, the recommended airport is Capodichino. Both for those arriving by train and even more so for those arriving by plane, it is strongly recommended to use the excellent and varied taxi and car rental service with driver that Ravello offers, and which allows you to limit the duration of your transfer to 1 hour. Ravello also offers a parking service with various operators who guarantee pick-up and return of the car as close as possible to the villa, before the flight of 195 steps leading down to villa. Ravello is well served by grocery shops, cafes and restaurants; the central square is (from the steps leading to the villa) about 900 m away.
