Purchases of new homes rose. New single-family home sales increased 11.9 percent to 811,000 units (SAAR) in December from a downwardly revised pace of 725,000 units in November but were 14.0 percent lower than one year ago. Monthly data on new home sales tend to be volatile. New home sales are based on a purchase agreement.
